The Design

Made around your day

A wedding commission begins with a conversation: the date, the guest count, the venue and the feeling you want the cake to carry. The design follows: its silhouette, finish and crown, considered alongside your flowers and the light of the room.

Begin with a photograph, a sketch or a piece from the portfolio. Or compose the cake yourself in the studio, where a wedding cake can be built in three dimensions, tier by tier, and priced as you go. Either way, the design travels with your enquiry and is refined with you before anything is baked.

Every cake is made by one set of hands, from the sponge to the last sugar petal. Delivery and setup are included across the DMV, from Washington, D.C. to Northern Virginia and Maryland: the cake is assembled at the venue and left ready shortly before your guests arrive.

The Tasting

Tasted before it is made

Every wedding commission includes a private tasting, scheduled once the design is underway and before the final flavors are set. It is where sponge and filling are chosen together, and where the cake begins to taste like your day.

The repertoire runs from vanilla bean and airy vanilla chiffon to pistachio and rose, lemon and elderflower, dark chocolate and Earl Grey, with fillings from Swiss meringue buttercream and vanilla crème pâtissière to lemon curd and pistachio cream. Sponge and filling pair however you like; the full list of flavors is a starting point, not a fixed menu.

Finish & Flowers

Buttercream, fondant and the crown

The finish sets the character of the cake and most of its price: buttercream from $12 per serving, fondant from $16, rolled, draped and polished by hand on every tier.

  • Smooth buttercream

    A soft, matte, hand-polished surface.

  • Semi-naked

Sponge glimpsed through a thin veil of cream.

  • Fondant

    A porcelain-smooth, sculptural shell.

Then the crown, hand-finished in the studio and set in place on the day:

  • Fresh florals

Seasonal blooms, cut just before delivery.

  • Sugar flowers

    Hand-sculpted, gum-paste botanicals.

  • Gilded leaf

Edible gold leaf, applied by hand.

Questions

Wedding cake questions

How far ahead should we book our wedding cake?

Weddings are booked eight to twelve weeks ahead of the date. Earlier is always easier, so write as soon as the date and the venue are set.

Is a tasting included?

Yes. Every wedding commission includes a private tasting, scheduled once the design is underway, so the final flavors are chosen together before work begins.

What does a wedding cake cost?

Wedding cakes are priced by the serving: from $12 per serving in buttercream and from $16 in fondant. The final figure follows the guest count, the finish and the handwork the design asks for, and every quote is confirmed after a consultation.

Do you deliver and set up the cake at the venue?

Yes. Delivery and setup are included across the DMV, timed to your event so the cake is set in its final place shortly before guests arrive. Further afield is by arrangement, with travel quoted alongside the design.

How many tiers do we need?

As a guide, two tiers serve 25 to 35 guests, three serve 45 to 65 and four serve 80 to 110. Exact servings are confirmed once your guest count and design are set.

Can we start from a design of our own?

Yes. Begin with a photograph, a sketch or a piece from the portfolio, or compose a cake in the studio and send the design with your enquiry. It is then adapted to your guest count, palette and flavors.

Can you accommodate allergies and dietary needs?

Gluten-free and egg-free adaptations are possible for many flavors; tell us at the enquiry stage so the structure and tasting can be planned around them. Every cake is made in a kitchen that handles wheat, eggs, milk, soy and tree nuts, and the menu includes almond, pistachio, hazelnut and coconut. Any cake may contain these, or traces of other allergens.
